If you’re an AWS Marketplace seller or APN partner, AWS offers a highly underused benefit: Marketing Development Funds (MDF) — funds that can cover up to 50% of your marketing expenses, including explainer video production.

Whether you're trying to get a video done this year (we’re currently in Q3 2025) or you're looking ahead to 2026, here's everything you need to know to qualify and how I can help.

Do Explainer Videos Really Qualify?

Yes. AWS Partner MDF supports:

  • Videos that explain or promote solutions built on AWS
  • Content used in AWS Marketplace listings or sales funnels
  • Third-party video production, like the work I do, is explicitly eligible
    → Most often categorized under “Partner Sales Content”

As long as the video is tied to an AWS product and approved in advance, you’re good.

  • Connection to an AWS-backed product or Marketplace listing
  • Timing that ensures delivery and claim submission before December

What If It's Already Q3 2025?

We’re past the June 30 MDF pre-commitment deadline meaning:

  • If you already submitted a video project for MDF, we’re good to go this year
  • If you didn’t submit anything by June 30, that uncommitted MDF may have expired

But don’t worry, this is the perfect time to start planning for 2026 and ensure you don’t miss out next time.

How to Plan for 2026 (Ideal Timeline)

To maximize your co-marketing dollars next year, here’s what I recommend:

  • Q1 2026: Check MDF wallet in Partner Central — funds usually reset at the start of the year
  • Q1–Q2 2026: Contact me to scope your video and prep your MDF application
  • By End of Q2 (June 30, 2026): Submit MDF request with AWS (include my SOW and brief)
  • Q3 2026: Produce and deliver the explainer
  • Q4 2026: Submit your reimbursement claim to AWS
  • By Mid-Dec 2026: Make sure all claims are finalized to receive your 50% back
